Carrier being assigned freight from a partner carrier through API

We are not a Rose Rocket Customer, but our partner is. They are a carrier but assigning us the pick ups.

How we become aware that there is a pickup to perform?
1. Do we poll an API that they host?
2. They call your dispatch API?
How do we post updates on the status to them
